During its May 7 meeting, the Penn State Board of Trustee s Committee on Governance and Long-Range Planning approved a $228 million proposal to build a new research and teaching building on west campus.
Tentatively named the Research & Teaching Building and deemed The Penn State University West 1 project by the Office of Physical Plant, the new building will be âlocated at the terminus of the Westgate ramp,â according to the Office of Physical Plantâs website.
The new building will feature the Department of Aerospace and Acoustics, the Department of Architectural Engineering and the Department of Civil Engineering, according to the Office of Physical Plant.
The Penn State Millennium Scholars Program, a program within the College of Agricultural Sciences to support students researching in STEM fields, received donor support from two Penn State alumni.
The program received an estimated $1 million, according to a press release, from Paul Heffner as an estate gift that will benefit the Paul Heffner Scholarship in the College of Agricultural Sciences. The first preference for this scholarship is for students in the Millennium Scholars Program.
The other donation came from Duane Norman and his wife, Roslyn W. Norman, who endowed a $100,000 gift to H. Duane and Roslyn W. Norman Millennium Scholars Scholarship through the Educational Equity Matching Program, securing a one to one match through the program.

To start off the night at 7:00 p.m., battle of the bands winner Flooringco will perform, an indie rock band made up of four Penn State students.
At 7:15 p.m., singer Pink Sweat$ will take the stage, a performance contribution made by the Student Programming Association at Penn State.
Wrapping up the night at 8:00 p.m., rapper Flo Rida will perform, an act contributed by Movinâ On itself.
This virtual concert is in collaboration with SPA, the Association of Residence Hall Students and the University Park Undergraduate Association.
