FOR the third day the number of positive tests in the Winchester district has been more than 30. There were 38 positive tests reported today compared to 35 yesterday and 32 the day before. Two weeks ago the number was four. The last time the number was over 30 was November 15. In the last seven days to today there have been 157 cases in Winchester district, compared to 63 in the week previously. There have been 1,992 cases since the start of the pandemic, up from 1,954, giving an infection rate of 1,595.4 since March. In the seven days to last Sunday, December 13, the most recently available, the Press Association national news agency reports there were 100 cases locally, compared to 60 in the previous seven days.
Hospital bosses said they remain vigilant as Covid cases are on the rise. HOSPITAL bosses in Southampton remain vigilant as Covid cases across the county are on the rise. Leaders at University Hospital Southampton said they are managing the number of Covid patients treated at the city hospital. But they said they remain vigilant. It comes as the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham is at risk of becoming overwhelmed, according to Simon Bryant, director of public health at Hampshire County Council. Details of the number of Covid patients admitted to Hampshire hospitals this month have not been released. But in a meeting held earlier this week Dr Bryant said: We know that Portsmouth hospital is the trust with the most number of cases being admitted recently and it s at risk of becoming overwhelmed.
SEVEN more coronavirus patients have died in Hampshire during the last 24 hours. Figures published by NHS England at 2pm today (December 18) reveal that seven more people have died with Covid-19. Across the whole of Hampshire, 814 people have died with Covid-19 since the start of the health crisis in March. At Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, four more patients have, in the last 24 hours, been confirmed as having died from the virus, bringing the total death toll up to 326. One more patients is reported to had died at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust bringing the total number of deaths up to 230.

In the seven days to today there have been 133 cases in Winchester district, compared to 67 in the week previously. There have been 1,954 cases since the start of the pandemic, up from 1,919, giving an infection rate of 1,565.0 since March.
Town Quay, Southampton. Inset: HM Coastguard A 19-year-old woman and a police officer have been rescued by the Coastguard in Southampton. South Central Ambulance Service said it was contacted by the coastguard at 11:10am today to inform them of the rescue. The two people were then taken to a landing point by the Ferry Terminal near Town Quay. An ambulance and a rapid response vehicle were sent out to meet the Coastguard. The police officer was treated and cleared at the scene. The female patient had been in the water for considerably longer and was taken to University Hospital Southampton for further assessment and treatment.
