Fed Govt Owing Our Members 15 Months’ Salaries, ASUU Alleges Posted by African ExaminerFeatured, Latest News, News Across Nigeria Monday, May 10th, 2021
(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Some varsity teachers are being owed between 15 and 16 months’ salaries, the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), claimed on Sunday.
The union said those mostly affected are lecturers who went on sabbatical. The claim could not be verified last night.
The varsity teachers accused Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) of deliberately frustrating the lecturers to a point of desperation in order to capture them on the controversial Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) of the government.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to resume its suspended strike over non-payment of salaries and alleged victimisation of members.
The chairman of the University of Ibadan branch of ASUU, Prof. Ayo Akinwole, in a statement issued yesterday asked Nigerians to blame the federal government if the union embarks on fresh strike.
Akinwole alleged that despite accepting ASUU’s condition before the strike was suspended on December 24, 2020, the federal government still owed many lecturers salaries of between two and 10 months.
“While ASUU as a union, and her members as individuals in various branches have remained faithful to this agreement by returning to classes and performing their respective duties, the federal government, true to type, has reneged on its part.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has accused the Federal Government of breaching a “no victimisation clause” agreed upon during the dialogue that led to the suspension of the strike they had embarked on.
