Five top leaders of Hefajat-e-Islam and Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish were placed on different terms of remand in three cases filed with Paltan Police Station over the 2013 mayhem and recent violence in Dhaka.
The five are: Hefajat s Assistant Secretary General Khurshid Alam Kasemi, also Nayeb-e-Amir of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish; Assistant Organising Secretary Ataullah Ameen; Executive Member of Dhaka City unit Maulana Sanaullah; Vice-president of Dhaka City unit Maulana Jubair Ahmed; and Khelafat Majlish s Joint Secretary Mufti Sharafat Hossain.
Of them, Khurshid and Sharafat were placed on five-day remand in two separate cases filed with Paltan Police Station over the 2013 mayhem while Ataullah and Sanaullah were remanded for five days in a case filed with the same police station over the violence on March 26 this year.

Police today arrested a Dhaka city unit leader of Hefajat-e-Islam from New Market area early today.
Arrestee Maulana Sanaullah is an executive member of the city unit of the Islamist group, police said.
A team of police arrested him from a madrasa in New Market area around 2:00am. He was being interrogated, said Jahidul Islam Sohag, assistant commissioner (Motijheel Zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
He is an FIR-named accused in a case filed with Paltan Police Station after the recent violence by Hefajat, he added.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion arrested a Hefajat-e-Islam leader from his village home in Manikganj early today.
The arrestee Khaled Saifullah Ayubi is the joint secretary general of Hefajat s central committee, a Hefajat leader said.
A team of Rab arrested Saifullah, an accused in a case filed with Paltan Police Station following recent violence in March this year, from Singair Upazila, Commander Khandaker Al Moin, Rab s Legal and Media Wing director, told The Daily Star.
With him, at least 13 top leaders of the Islamist group have been arrested in recent times.

Three more Hefajat leaders were arrested in cases filed over violence in 2013 and March this year while five, including four arrested earlier, were placed on remand yesterday.
Meanwhile, 16 cases filed after the recent violence by Hefajat-e-Islam in six districts were transferred to the Police Bureau of Investigation.
Rab arrested Khaled Saifullah Ayubi, joint secretary general of Hefajat, in Manikganj early yesterday. He is accused in a case filed with Paltan Police Station after the violence in March this year, Commander Khandaker Al Moin, Rab s Legal and Media Wing director, told The Daily Star.
‘Shishu Bokta’ Rafiqul remanded in 2 cases

Rafiqul Islam Madani, widely known as Shishu Bokta , was placed on remand today in two cases filed with Motijheel and Tejgaon police stations.
A virtual court in Dhaka placed Madani on a four-day remand in a case filed with Motijheel Police Station over the violence on March 25 this year.
Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufiyan Md Noman passed the order after Md Kamrul Hasan Talukder, an inspector of the Detective Branch of Police and also the investigation officer of the case, submitted a 10-day remand prayer.
