After passing the district’s plan for the use of its third round of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief, or ESSER, funds, officials with the Canyon Independent School District updated the plan during a special called meeting Monday evening, widening the impact some of the funds could have on four elementary campuses.  According to previous reports by the Amarillo Globe-News, Canyon ISD received $6,408,763 in this third round of funding, which came through the passage of the American Rescue Plan, signed into law earlier this year by President Joe Biden.  Out of the total amount of ESSER Three funds, the majority of the funds, consisting of $4,415,077, was originally planned to go to academic supports including hiring additional staff/teacher support for kindergarten and first grades; hiring tutors/long-term subs; more summer learning opportunities; adding instructional materials including Promethean boards, Chromebooks and online software.
