Quarter Mile

Sun, 04, 21 The presumption must be that in 2021 everything in pop culture, including music, has slowed down. However, having lived through 2020 when the Covid-19 (coronavirus) pandemic had already hit the world, the music industry learned to adapt. Though Covid-19 is still a reality that has affected live music seriously, vaccines have brought the semblance of a silver lining. Given these abnormal times, major developments took place in the overall music ecosystem. “I can’t believe the news today/Oh, I can’t close my eyes and make it go away/How long, how long must we sing this song? How long? How long?” – ‘Sunday Bloody Sunday’ by U2

Ali Zafar and Aima Baig star in the ISPR's new Pakistan Day song - Music

Ali Zafar and Aima Baig star in the Pakistan military's latest song, Aik Qaum, Aik Manzil. The song has been released to commemorate the approaching Pakistan Day. It has been written by Abid Ahsan. The music video, uploaded on the ISPR’s official YouTube page, begins with the inspiring words of the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, as he addressed the nation soon after independence, saying, "We have rendered great sacrifices to achieve Pakistan". This is complemented with archival footage displaying the struggle of independence, and the horrors of the biggest mass migration in human history. Both singers are dressed in green for the music video — Zafar wears a white kurta with a light green waistcoat, while Baig dons green shalwar kameez.

The Pakistan Army has dedicated the track, written by Abid Ahsan, to frontline healthcare professionals and late mountaineer Ali Sadpara, who went missing while attempting to summit K2 earlier this year. Titled Aik Qaum, Aik Manzil, the song’s video, which can be found on ISPR’s official YouTube channel, begins with footage of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s multiple addresses to the people of Pakistan following the 1947 independence. He can be heard saying, “We have rendered great sacrifices to achieve Pakistan." It then picks up the pace with a catchy tune, crooned by Zafar and Aima at Minar-e-Pakistan.
