Spain’s Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía hosts Moroccan Trilogy

The exhibition titled Moroccan Trilogy 1950-2020 (Trilogía Marroquí 1950-2020) being hosted at Madrid’s Museo Reina Sofía (Mar. 31 – Sept. 27) is an initiative of Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Ministry of Culture and Sport of the Government of Spain and National Foundation of Museums of the Kingdom of Morocco, with the collaboration of Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art Qatar Museums and Qatar Foundation. Curated by Manuel Borja-Villel and Abdellah Karroum and coordinated by Leticia Sastre, it articulates a visual dialogue, reflecting artistic production at three historical moments, dating from Morocco’s independence to the present day.

By James Churchill, Conservator, Kreilick Conservation LLCNow that spring is in the air, we are delighted to reopen the recently restored Step Fountain. Generously funded by the William B. Dietrich Foundation, the restoration project was completed by Kreilick Conservation, LLC with the help of contractors Pullman SST Inc. and PondWorks towards the end of 2020. The fountain houses an unusual yet beautiful pairing of Indiana limestone and Pennsylvania bluestone with a Wissahickon schist and concrete foundation.

The Step Fountain was designed by the architect, Robert Rodes McGoodwin, a graduate and instructor architect of our very own University of Pennsylvania. A trustee of the School of Fine Arts, he designed Houston Hall, the University Hospital and dormitories, and the Horace Howard Furness Shakespeare Reading Room (now Arthur Ross Gallery) in the renowned Frank Furness library (now Fisher Fine Arts Library). Paola Vergottini
Argentina
Paola was born in Argentina and began drawing by instinct. At the age of 6, she regularly met with a neighbour to have fun painting little women. She then participated in art workshops where she discovered different materials and techniques. As an adult, she studied at the School of Fine Arts, where she was particularly interested in drawing and engraving. She obtained a scholarship to train alongside the master Alfredo de Vicenzo (a professor of engraving). During the first 10 years of her career, Paola was dedicated to these two disciplines in all their forms: zincography, lithography, collage and mixed media. Her works were black and white, and included a process of emotional catharsis (purification of the passions through art) in which the artist expressed her anguish.
