Memories of Dictatorship , a Greek Film Archive Tribute for Greeks worldwide

22 April 2021 3:52pm The Greek Film Archive at Home series of screenings are aimed at promoting rare films of Greek cinema to Greeks around the world. The fourth cycle of online screenings are dedicated to the 54th anniversary of the tragic coup, which took place on 21 April, 1967, titled “Memories of Dictatorship”. The series kicked off last night and runs through to Tuesday, 27 April, with films available at online.tainiothiki.gr. It is hoped that the new series will meet with the same success as previous screenings which were viewed by 36,660 people in April and May 2020. Landmark films by Theo Angelopoulos, Pantelis Voulgaris, Dimos Theos, Nikos Kavoukidis, Nikos Koundouros, Frieda Liappa, Dimitris Makris, Roviros Manthoulis, Tonia Marketaki, Thanassis Rentzis, Yiorgos Stamboulopoulos, Pavlos Tasios, Sakis Maniatis/ Yiorgos Tsemberopoulos, and Thanassis Rentzis-Nikos Zervos will be screened.

Theodor Pallady was born in Iasi in 1871. After the first years of schooling, he lived in Bucharest (1886) as a pupil of the School of Bridges and Roads, and later in Dresden, as a student of the Polytechnic in this city. In parallel with his engineering studies, he took painting lessons with Ervin Oehme. He dedicated himself to painting and, in 1889, went to Paris to study in Edmond Aman-Jean’s studio. Later, starting in 1891, as a student at the School of Fine Arts in Paris, he studied in the studio of Puvis de Chavannes, husband of Princess Cantacuzino, the sister of the painter’s maternal grandfather. NEW YORK, NY .- Twenty rare and exceptional paintings and works on paper by Modernist Master, Alexander Skunder Boghossian (Ethiopian, 1937-2003) will be offered at Bonhams Modern & Contemporary African Art sale in New York on May 4. The works, all acquired directly from the artist’s estate, were executed from the 1960s through the 90s with individual estimates ranging from $2,000 to $150,000. Giles Peppiatt, Bonhams Director of Modern & Contemporary African Art, said: “Boghossian is one of Ethiopia’s most highly regarded Modernist artists and we are delighted to offer the collection from the artist’s family for the first time at auction. The dynamic works illustrate the diversity of multiple influences throughout his prolific career.”
