Poughkeepsie Day School closed last spring after 86 years of operation, citing declining enrollment and an unsustainable economic position.
As it reopens this fall, the school s new leadership says it has a plan for addressing those concerns, which includes lowering tuition rates by 20%, improving teachers salaries and, in time, relocating from its longtime home on Boardman Road.
The school recently announced it is again accepting applications for admission, roughly 10 months after Head of School Ben Chant declared it would close for good, with its economic troubles compounded by COVID-19.
The decision, however, was met with immediate dispute from alumni, who sought a way to keep the institution alive, and was soon followed by a Board of Trustees email to the community indicating hope to remain open for 2020-21.
