The School District of Manatee County s Food and Nutrition Services Department is providing free meals to children 18 years old or younger throughout spring break.
Spring break is from March 15 to March 19.
Children will receive lunch and a snack.
Meals can be picked up between 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. each day from the mobile feeding bus that will be parked at Freedom Elementary School and Carlos E. Haile Middle School.
The bus will have indoor and outdoor seating to allow children to eat while in air conditioning or under the shade of an awning.

The School Board of Manatee County approved the date changes 4-1, with board member Mary Foreman dissenting, during its regular meeting March 9.
District leaders were working with the Bradenton Area Convention Center in February to plan graduation for this year when they were notified the center would not be able to exceed 500 to 600 participants for graduation.
After the COVID-19 pandemic began, Lindsey McKinnon, an art teacher at R. Dan Nolan Middle School, was used to seeing her students’ faces from the eyes up because of the School District of Manatee County’s mask policy.
When McKinnon’s students started their self portrait projects in February, she finally saw her students’ smiles when she took photos of each student.

Lakewood Ranch’s Hilary Lipman was ready for her weekly Zoom call Feb. 11.
She logged in to see Elijah Betancourt, a second grader at James Tillman Elementary School, pop up on her screen for their mentoring session.
Betancourt sent screenshots of the book “Spider-Man’s Worst Enemies” to Lipman, so she could follow along as he read to her.

The Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch started the Books for Kids program in 2014 with a goal to raise reading levels of elementary school students by helping with reading comprehension and providing books to students, so they could develop their own libraries at home.
