Delhi sets up six-member committee to prepare blueprint for virtual school

The Delhi government on Thursday constituted a six-member committee comprising school principals, teachers and IT officials to study the best global practices in virtual schooling and submit a blueprint for the national capital s virtual school, officials said. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia presided over a meeting to outline the scope of the Delhi Model Virtual School, a first-of-its-kind school that would strive to provide education to students remotely through personalised teaching-learning, effective assessments and the use of cutting edge technology, they said. The Delhi government had proposed to establish the virtual school in its 2021-22 Budget. According to the officials, existing models of virtual schools in the US and New Zealand were discussed in the meeting.

The educational institutions were shut in March last year in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak. The administration has asked the school authorities to ensure strict adherence to COVID-19 guidelines to prevent a surge in fresh cases. Many schools have reopened only for classes 10 and 12, while some have restarted for all four classes. Schools that have reopened for classes 10 and 12 will hold physical classes on a rotational basis every alternate day. Students of classes 9-12 will study in schools from today. The government has requested the school authorities to strictly follow the COVID-19 guidelines. I greet all the students and teachers on the occasion. We all have to be careful, Education Minister Partha Chatterjee said.

Primary classes to reopen at all Punjab schools from January 27

Earlier this month, the state government had reopened schools for Classes 5 to 12. Following persistent demand of parents, the state government has decided to reopen all schools for primary classes from January 27, Education minister Vijay Inder Singla in a statement here. The minister said as per the decision, Students of Classes 3 and 4 will be allowed to attend the school from January 27. From February 1, Classes 1 and 2 will be restarted at all school, he said. The timings will remain the same from 10 am to 3 pm and parents will have to give written consent before sending their wards to schools. Singla directed officials and school managements to ensure proper cleaning of premises and follow the COVID-19 safety norms.
