Nominations sought for quarterly first responder recognition

Special to the Bulletin The First Responder of the Quarter will be recognized during the July 12 meeting of the Brown County Commissioners Court, and community members are asked to send nominations to the Emergency Management Office by July 6. Brown County Emergency Management Coordinator Darrell Johnston said in a press release: Brown County Judge Paul Lilly earlier announced a new program to recognize first responders in Brown County for going above and beyond to serve the citizens of Brown County. This is a way to say a special “thank you” for service. Nominate a first responder who you believe shows the dedication of those who take care of the community on a daily basis and help the citizens of Brown County through some of their most difficult times during an emergency.

Commissioners OK IP Radian request to install water lines

Brownwood Bulletin Brown County Commissioners Court members approved an application from IP Radian LLC the company that lost its bid for a tax abatement to build a solar farm project to install water lines on county roads 186, 187 and 188. “They’re trying to figure a way to go ahead with their solar project,” Precinct 1 Commissioner Gary Worley said at Monday s commissioners court meeting. Brown County Judge Paul Lilly posted earlier on his Facebook page that IP Radian is going on with the solar farm near Brookesmith, even though commissioners earlier voted down creating a reinvestment zone for the project. The vote denying the reinvestment zone meant it was not possible to consider approving a tax abatement.

Reinvestment zone, tax abatement for solar farm voted down by commissioners

The Brown County Commissioners Court met Monday at the Adams Street Community Center. By a vote of 3-2, Brown County Commissioners on Monday morning determined there will be no tax abatement for a proposed solar farm by the developer, IP Radian, which is planned for southwest Brown County near Brookesmith and in the Brookesmith Independent School District. Precinct 3 Commissioner Wayne Shaw moved to create an a reinvestment zone for the purpose of tax abatement to provide economic development within the county, which was seconded by Precinct 2 Commissioner Joel Kelton. Both commissioners then voted in favor of the reinvestment zone. Precinct 1 Commissioner Gary Worley, Precinct 4 Commissioner Larry Traweek, and Brown County Judge Paul Lilly voted against the reinvestment zone.
