Nearly 83 percent of 65+ in Brown County received first dose | News, Sports, Jobs

Mar 16, 2021 NEW ULM The Minnesota Department of Health says 82.8% of the 65+ population in Brown County has received one dose of the COVID 19 vaccine as of March 13. Twenty eight percent of all residents of Brown County have received one dose, and 14.3% are considered fully vaccinated. The Minnesota COVID 19 vaccine data dashboard can be found at https://mn.gov/covid19/vaccine/data/index.jsp. Most of the vaccine up to this point in Brown County has been Moderna or Pfizer. With both individuals are NOT fully protected with the vaccine until 2 weeks after their 2nd dose. “I believe there is a significant part of the population that is under the assumption that they are protected with one dose and that is not the case for the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines,” said Karen Moritz, Brown County Public Director.

Five Pro Football Hall of Famers are partnering with Centene Corporation to increase education and awareness around COVID-19 vaccines through a series of public service announcements. The PSAs began airing nationally Friday on television and digital platforms and focus particularly on communities of color. Hall of Famers taking part include include Anthony Muñoz, in both English and Spanish, Darrell Green, Aeneas Williams, and Drew Pearson. Also contributing are broadcaster Lisa Salters, South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley, and Iman McFarland, CEO of 21st Century Expo Group. Multiple surveys have indicated high rates of “vaccine hesitancy” within the Black community and other communities of color, and that s impacting immunization rates. Recent data show that Blacks make up only 6% of those who have been vaccinated despite constituting 13% of the population and accounting for 15% of all COVID-19 deaths.
