Covid-19: Five new deaths and 1,063 new cases, says Health DG

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said three of the deaths were reported in Sarawak, while the other two were in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. “All the deceased are Malaysians. The Ministry would like to express our condolences to their family members, ” said Dr Noor Hisham in his daily Covid-19 statement. He said those who died were aged between 69 and 84, and added that all were sufferers of co-morbidities such as diabetes and high blood pressure. The three Sarawak cases were all at the Sibu Hospital, while one was reported at Hospital Serdang and the other at Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

KUALA LUMPUR (March 16): New Covid-19 cases in Malaysia dropped further to 1,063 today, bringing the country's cumulative coronavirus infections to 326,034. This is the fifth consecutive day of steady decline for Malaysia, from the 1,647 cases it logged on March 11. This is also the 11th straight day that new confirmed infections stayed below the 2,000 level.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded 1,063 new Covid-19 positive cases in the past 24 hours, which is the lowest figure reported so far this year, to take the country’s case tally to 326,034. Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that of today’s total, four were imported cases infected abroad while 1,059 were local transmissions. “All four imported cases were foreigners while the local transmissions involved 814 Malaysians and 245 foreigners,” he said in a statement on Covid-19 today. He said there were 1,365 recoveries, taking the total number of recoveries to 309,612. Dr Noor Hisham also said that the three states with the highest number of cases were Selangor (323), Sarawak (183) and Penang (175).
