Covid-19: Community outbreaks make up half of 10 new clusters detected

PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry has detected five Covid-19 outbreaks within communities in Sarawak and Selangor. Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said they were among 10 new clusters classified by the ministry on Friday (March 12). One of them is the Jalan Kunci Air cluster, which has cases spread throughout the Gombak and Hulu Selangor districts. The index case of this cluster developed symptoms before testing positive for Covid-19 on March 1. A total of 205 individuals had undergone screening under this cluster, of which 18 were confirmed as positive cases, said Dr Noor Hisham. The Sena cluster in Sarawak has 61 positive cases which originated from the locality of Lorong Sena 1A in Lutong, Miri.

This was revealed yesterday as the state disaster management committee reported 199 new cases. The committee said the Melor cluster in Kampung Beladin in the coastal district of Pusa, currently has 14 confirmed cases. “Tracing and screening of close contacts of the 23-year-old woman, the index case which was confirmed positive on Feb 24, yielded 13 more positive cases. “The infection was believed to have spread through social contact and prayers at the village surau, ” the committee said in a statement, which did not state the date of the prayer session. This brings the number of active clusters in the state to 27. Of the total, six clusters reported new cases on Wednesday.

PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry has recorded five new Covid-19 clusters which were detected in Selangor, Johor, Melaka and Sabah. Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in his daily Covid-19 updates said three of the clusters are workplace outbreaks. The Tapak Bina Jalan Kenangan cluster in Klang, Selangor involves workers of a construction site in Meru. “The positive cases were found from a targeted screening exercise conducted at the construction site. A total of 121 individuals were screened and 31 positive cases were found,” said Dr Noor Hisham. The Teknologi Tenggara cluster in Johor involves workers of a factory in Jalan Kluang, Batu Pahat.
