PETALING JAYA: A total number of 3,211 new Covid-19 cases were recorded by the Health Ministry today, bringing the total number of active cases to 35,253.
The national tally now stands at 151,066.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the majority of today’s cases stemmed from local transmissions (3,206 cases) while five were imported.
Selangor had the most number of cases today with 889 where 127 individuals were detected in the new Jalan Telok Gong and Lintaran Lintang clusters with an imported case while Johor recorded 535 cases with 80 from the new Persiaran Selatan, Jalan Kluang and Kampung Perani cluster.
Sabah recorded a total of 514 cases with 48 individuals hailing from the new Ladang Baturong and Ladang Matamba cluster while Kuala Lumpur recorded a total of 401 cases today with 130 cases from the new Tapak Bina Damai cluster.
The Brazil Covid variant has now been detected in the UK and is causing growing concern.
This variant was first detected in Brazil in December and has seen a mass transfer of Covid-19 patients out of Manaus, the Amazon s largest city, as it struggles with a shortage of oxygen tanks.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said he is very concerned about a new variant of coronavirus which has been identified in Brazil.
He told the Liaison Committee this week the Government is “taking steps” to ensure the new strain is not imported into the UK.
He said: “Well we are and we re putting in extra measures to ensure that people coming from Brazil are checked and indeed stopping people coming from Brazil.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded the highest number of new daily Covid-19 cases today at 3,337 cases, bringing the total number of positive cases in the country to 147,855.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the total number of new cases, seven were imported while the remaining 3,330 cases were local transmissions.
The previous highest number of daily cases was 3,309, which was recorded on Tuesday.
“The number of active cases with Covid-19 infectivity is 33,989.
“Fifteen new Covid-19 deaths involving nine men, aged between 53 and 81, as well as six women including two non-citizens, aged between 27 and 91, were recorded in Sabah, Selangor, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan and Johor,” he said in a statement today
