PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry reported 2,451 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the total of accumulative cases to 133, 559.
Of this total, five were imported cases while 2,446 were local transmissions.
Five fatalities were reported today, and the total death toll now stands at 542.
“Selangor had the highest number of cases at 564, followed by Sabah (409) and Negri Sembilan (351),” Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
Johor had 302 cases, Penang (273), Kuala Lumpur (198), Kedah (65), Kelantan (61), Sarawak (55), Malacca (50), Perak (42), Pahang (36), Putrajaya (17), Terengganu (16), Perlis (eight) and Labuan (four).
The five fatalities were all males aged between 62 and 87.
They were from Johor (three), and Selangor and Putrajaya with one each. All of them had underlying health problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, as well as kidney and lung complications.

KUCHING: Another full-scale lockdown to curb the rising spread of Covid-19 would have an adverse impact on the nation s economic recovery, says the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak (ACCCIS).
However, the organisation s secretary-general Jonathan Chai said saving lives was also an important consideration should a lockdown be necessary. If the government imposes another lockdown, it will be a huge blow to the recovery of the economy and we don t want to see that happen.
PETALING JAYA: Six new clusters were recorded in the country, with four linked to workplaces, while three other clusters ended on Friday (Jan 8).
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the six clusters are located in Selangor (three), Kuala Lumpur (two) and Sabah (one).
Dr Noor Hisham said the new Jalan Klinik cluster was a workplace cluster detected in Klang, Selangor.
The cases in this cluster recorded positive cases on Jan 8 through a targeted screening at a factory, he said. As of Jan 8, a total of 448 individuals were screened, with 132 testing positive, he said in a statement.
Another workplace cluster, the Tapak Bina Hevea cluster, was found in the Petaling district in Selangor.
