KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 23 It takes roughly three to four months to register a Covid-19 vaccine with the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA), said the Health Ministry.
Its director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said all pharmaceutical products must be registered with the Drug Control Authority (DCA) following a quality, safety and efficacy evaluation process by the NPRA before they can be marketed in Malaysia.

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 23 The Ministry of Health today announced 1,348 new Covid-19 infections nationwide in the last 24 hours, driving up Malaysia’s cumulative cases to 98,737 since the pandemic started.
Malaysia saw 2,062 cases yesterday and 2,018 the day before. The cases first crossed the 2,000 mark on December 10 when it hit 2,234 in a single day.
However, the number of active cases nationwide is currently at 18,279 while 102 patients have been admitted into intensive care wards, 44 of whom need breathing assistance.
PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry has identified a new Covid-19 strain in the country from samples taken in Sabah.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, however, said it was still unknown whether the strain – dubbed the “A701B” mutation – was more infectious than usual.
“We detected this mutation in 60 samples taken from Covid-19 patients under the Benteng Lahad Datu cluster in Sabah.
“We still have not ascertained whether this strain has a high infectivity level and whether it is more aggressive than usual.
“It is similar to a strain found in South Africa, Australia and the Netherlands.
“The Covid-19 virus always mutates, and we are always monitoring and researching the implication of the different strains towards the population, ” said Dr Noor Hisham at a press conference here on Wednesday (Dec 23).
