The number of people with active Covid-19 infections in Malaysia has gone up to 17,646.
Currently, 111 patients are in intensive care, with 51 requiring ventilator support.
in his daily Covid-19 update on Tuesday (Dec 22), Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said four cases were imported infections, while the rest were local transmissions.
Dr Noor Hisham said Selangor continued to record the highest increase of the day out of all states with 1,014 confirmed cases, or 49.2% of Tuesday s total.
This is followed by Kuala Lumpur with 504 or 24.4% of the total number of cases and Sabah with 252 cases (12.2%).
There are 120 new cases reported from prison and detention centre clusters, which is about 5.8% of Tuesday s tally.

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 22 ― Eight new Covid-19 clusters have been detected nationwide today by the Ministry of Health, bringing Malaysia’s total to 459 clusters since the virus broke out here.
Five of them are spread out in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor while the ministry said Johor, Perak and Sabah each has one new cluster.
The first cluster, dubbed the Pasar Baru cluster, has 309 cases so far out of 2,001 people screened. Its index patient was reported as Covid-19 positive on December 15, with the infection having since spread to Klang and Kuala Langat in Selangor.

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of new Covid-19 cases was higher than 2,000 for the second day in a row, with half the number detected in Selangor alone.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 2,062 new cases were recorded today, the third highest since the pandemic began in Malaysia. The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia is now at 97,389 with 17,646 being active cases. Of the new cases (today), four were imported cases, he said in a statement.
Selangor, he said, had the highest number of daily cases for the past 24 hours at 1,014.
KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 22): A total of 1,880 Covid-19 cases have been recorded among healthcare workers since the pandemic began in January, said the Ministry of Health (MoH). Up until Dec 21, 1,880 Covid-19 cases have been detected among healthcare workers from various screenings, said MoH director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement.
Dr Noor Hisham said 33% of the infections came from transmission among colleagues, while another 33% were from the community.
He added that as of Dec 15, 52,593 healthcare workers had been screened.
On Dec 18, Dr Noor Hisham said 1,359 healthcare workers had tested positive for Covid-19 since the third wave of the outbreak began in September, bringing the total number of infections as of that day to 1,771.
