PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia’s Covid-19 cases have breached the 80,000 mark as the country discovers more new clusters linked to workplaces.
The Health Ministry tweeted yesterday that Malaysia’s R0 (pronounced R-naught) value is now 1.13. It was about 0.92 on Dec 1.
The biggest contributor to the increase in yesterday’s 1,810 cases was the newly-detected Sungai Putus cluster, which has 427 confirmed infections.
This cluster was detected from a targeted Covid-19 screening of workers of a factory in Klang, Selangor.
“As of Dec 11, a total of 2,001 individuals under this cluster have undergone screening, with 427 positive cases registered.
“They comprised 418 foreigners and nine Malaysians, ” Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12 The Ministry of Health (MOH) has detected three more new clusters of Covid-19 infection at workplaces in several districts in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Sabah and Terangganu.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the first cluster, namely, the Bukit Gemok Cluster involving the Tawau district in Sabah, the index case of which had been reported positive on Dec 5, as a result of screenings of individual with symptoms.
