KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The High Court will here on Jan 27 an application by former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to disqualify former Federal Court judge Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram from leading the prosecution team in his on-going trial over alleged tampering of the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) audit report.
Lawyer Nur Syahirah Hanapiah, representing Najib, told reporters this after the case came up for mention today before deputy registrar, Catherine Nicholas.
Also present was deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Mustaffa P. Kunyalam. Senior counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah is currently on medical leave, so the hearing, initially fixed for Friday (Jan 8), has to be taken off.

Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah, in his decision, said the Pekan MP must not make statements relating to the trial as if the trial is in the public domain .
The court had earlier heard submissions from both parties arising from the prosecution s application for Najib to be issued a warning on the matter. The statements that Zeti had made (in interviews) do not justify the accused in this case responding by way of his Facebook post.

KUALA LUMPUR: The defence in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) trial has protested over a complaint by the prosecution regarding Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s Facebook post on former Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz.
The complaint was over Najib’s Facebook post on Dec 29 where he urged Zeti to respond to allegations that her family received more than RM100mil, said to be from 1MDB funds, from fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low.
Najib’s lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah said not allowing Najib to share his thoughts on social media was akin to “a boxer being sent to the ring with both hands tied, can take punches but not being able to reply back”.
KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 6): The criminal breach of trust (CBT) trial of former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak and former Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah involving RM6.6 billion of government funds for payments made to International Petroleum Investment Co (IPIC) will still be held at the High Court in September and October this year.
This is despite the uncertainty with regards to the progress of Najib s ongoing 1Malaysia Development Bhd-Tanore (1MDB-Tanore) trial, as the 10th prosecution witness, 1MDB former CEO Mohd Hazem Abdul Rahman is still testifying.
Justice Datuk Muhammad Jamil Hussin decided to maintain the dates after Najib s lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah confirmed that the dates were still suitable, but inquired whether the court still wanted to deliberate over whether it would hear the case or not as the 1MDB-Tanore trial is not expected to end by then.
