Photo: Reuters World03/Mar/2021 New Delhi: Power utilities in Telangana removed malware that they spotted after being alerted by the Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT-In), raising further suspicions about cyber intrusions by Chinese-backed hackers targeting India’s power grid system. According to news agency PTI, a heightened state of alertness would continue for some more days. “We noticed some malware. Immediately, we erased that. We have taken all the preventive steps. Absolutely, there is no problem,” a senior official told PTI.

Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh (File photo) MUMBAI: A preliminary report submitted by the Maharashtra police cyber cell on the massive power outage across Mumbai in October last year has suggested that the incident could be cyber sabotage, said state home minister Anil Deshmukh on Monday. Deshmukh said a probe committee has found evidence of suspicious entry into the transmission system through servers of the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB). The report was submitted to the state government on Monday, said Deshmukh. The minister’s statement came hours after reports emerged of a possible Chinese cyber attack on India’s power grid. The minister said a reputed, US-based company Recorded Future has referred to Chinese entities mounting a strike through the net on Indian electricity infrastructure, leading to cascading power failure in Mumbai.
