The first baby born at Passavant Area Hospital in 2021 was welcomed to the world Monday.
Juniper Opal Riggs was born at 3:31 pm Monday. Juniper’s parents are Jenny Bishop and Jacob Riggs of White Hall. Bishop says she did not envision becoming pregnant in 2020, but her baby girl, is everything Bishop imagined she would be. Juniper’s father, Jacob Riggs says he was hoping for a girl.
Kevin Eckhoff of Jacksonville and a couple of friends were in New York City several years at a Broadway theatre waiting for James Earl Jones to emerge for a possible quick photo and autograph.
One of Eckhoff s friends, Jay Todd, started chatting up a security officer, mentioning that he lived in St. Louis.
That piqued the officer s interest, who ducked inside and emerged a couple of minutes later, asking if they wanted to go backstage to meet the actor. So we re in this tiny Broadway dressing room where we re almost elbow to elbow, Eckhoff recalled with a laugh. Apparently, James Earl Jones had grown up for a period of time in St. Louis and went to school and used to walk through Forest Park from school to home and for whatever reason it struck a nerve with him.
Persons are now being warned to be aware of potential COVID-19 vaccine scams.
Sangamon County health officials reported Wednesday nine new deaths due to COVID-19, though those deaths took place over four days, from Friday to Monday.
Three of the deaths were residents of long-term care facilities, including two residents, both females in their 90s, from Country Lane Memory Care Assisted Living in Riverton.
The other resident, also a female in her 90s, was from the Villas of Holly Brook and Reflections Memory Care in Springfield.
Sangamon County has now logged 175 fatalities due to the virus, including 74 in December.
The county reported 67 newly-confirmed positive cases Wednesday, putting the overall total at 13,160.

Memorial Health System
SPRINGFIELD – Memorial Health System has received several thousand doses of Moderna COVID-19 vaccines this week and expects to complete the process of first vaccination dosage to its colleagues within the next two to three weeks.
The hospital system has received 6,235 doses of vaccine since Dec. 16, the day it administered the first vaccinations, said Chuck Callahan, president of the MHS hospital group and president and CEO of Memorial Medical Center. About 80 percent of the doses are Moderna, and the others were Pfizer-BioNTech.
Through Tuesday, Dec. 29, 3,089 colleagues across five regional campuses have been vaccinated. The health system will continue offering vaccination clinics for colleagues this week at several locations.
