WAYNE, NJ A Wayne man is charged with child abuse and neglect after an investigation by the Passaic County Prosecutor s Office Special Victims Unit and the Wayne Police Department.
The charges and arrest stem from an instance in May 2020 when an unresponsive 4-week-old was taken to St. Joseph s University Medical Center. At the hospital, doctors discovered external and internal injuries on the child, the prosecutor said.
The investigation led to the arrest of Slobodan Todoric, 30, of Wayne, who was released on pretrial monitoring after a court appearance Tuesday. He is charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child, in addition to the charges above.

A group of Paterson residents fled to their backyard as a three-alarm fire burned on Lafayette Street early Friday but were eventually rescued, a city fire official said.
The group of about 10 people were trapped in the yard as the alleys on either side of them were blocked by fire as flames spread to three buildings, Deputy Fire Chief Frank Calamita said. Firefighters sprayed the area with water and quelled the fire enough to create an escape route as police on scene helped lead the people to safety, Calamita said.
No one was injured.
The fire started at about 3 a.m. and was brought under control at about 5:45 a.m. The flames left heavy damage on the three buildings, Calamita said.
