Charges against driver upgraded in N.J. crash that killed 1, injured 2 others Updated Mar 09, 2021; Facebook Share Charges against a Florida, man arrested after a fatal crash in Paterson two years ago have been upgraded by indictment from death-by-auto to first-degree aggravated manslaughter, authorities said Monday. Alvin Mootoo, 49, of Orlando, was arrested following the Jan. 2, 2019 crash that killed 31-year-old Jorge Alberto Pena Mesa, who was standing near a parked car talking to the driver when he was struck, police said at the time. The drivers of two other cars were hospitalized with minor injuries, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Victim of March 3 shooting in Paterson dies from injuries

The victim of a March 3 shooting in Paterson has died from his injuries, authorities said.  Jaquan Harrison, 35, of Paterson, who was shot while in the area of North Sixth and Clinton streets, died from his injuries at St. Joseph s University Medical Center in Paterson on Sunday morning, said an announcement from Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora. Harrison was taken to the hospital and had remained in critical condition since the shooting, the announcement said. Responding police officers found Harrison inside a building in the area of North Sixth and Clinton streets with an apparent gunshot wound, the announcement read.

Police: Man who punched 1-year-old gave daughter Barbie to take blame

PATERSON A man accused of punching a one-year-old boy in the stomach a blow that authorities say caused the child to undergo emergency surgery last Christmas Day gave his five-year-old daughter a Barbie doll to get the girl to lie to detectives, according to criminal complaints against the suspect. In exchange for the toy, the little girl told investigators that she not her father hit the toddler in the stomach with a hammer after the boy bit her finger, according to police records. The man, 37-year-old Jeanandre Desir, allegedly also gave his eight-year-old son $1 to go along with the story that his little sister inflicted the toddler’s injury with a hammer, said an affidavit of probable cause filed in Superior Court in Paterson.
