PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ - According to the office of Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, 13 individuals were arrested and offered drug abuse treatment as part of Operation Helping Hand which was carried out over the course of two days, ending on Monday, April 19. Those arrested were residents of Passaic County as well as Bergen, Morris, Sussex, and Rockland in New York. The operation was carried out by the Passaic County Prosecutor s Narcotics Task Force in concert with the police departments of Hawthorne, Prospect Park, North Haledon, Haledon, Pompton Lakes, Totowa, Wayne, and Wanaque.

A Paterson man was charged with beating his 3-month-old infant unconscious at a Route 46 shopping center.
Woodland Park police were called to The Plaza 46 shopping center on a report of an unresponsive infant in early January, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Acting Woodland Park Police Chief John Uzzalino said Tuesday.
The girl was rushed to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, where doctors “discovered various internal injuries,” they said in a statement.
Detectives from Valdes’s office interviewed several witnesses over three months before arresting Elie Kiame, 34, on Monday, the statement said.
They charged him with aggravated assault, child endangerment and child abuse/neglect and sent him to the Passaic County Jail.
N.J. man charged with attempted murder in slashing of bicyclist, cops say

A Passaic County man was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree attempted murder in the slashing of a bicyclist, authorities said.
Peter Perez Jr., 21, of Clifton, was also charged with second-degree aggravated assault, third-degree terroristic threats and weapons offenses in the April 7 attack, police said.
Perez is accused of slashing the victim shortly after 9 p.m. at the intersection of Sheridan and Wilson Avenues in Clifton, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Clifton Police Chief Thomas Rinaldi.
A 43-year-old Clifton resident, suffered slash wounds to his forearm, hand and fingers, Valdes and Rinaldi said in a statement. He was taken to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson with injuries not considered life-threatening, they said.
