Tourism officials laud steadily improving arrival numbers
“The recovery we are seeing is encouraging”
NASSAU, BAHAMAS Bahamas Hotel & Tourism Association (BHTA) President Robert “Sandy” Sands said yesterday that the continuing trend of this nation’s tourism numbers growing week-over-week, in addition to the popular US Memorial Day weekend, has proven a “positive combination” with a number of hotels reporting a boost in business over the weekend.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS Minister of Tourism Dionisio D’Aguilar and Minister of Agriculture Michael Pintard recently signed a memorandum of understanding to launch a new initiative aimed at engendering a “viable and visible linkage” between local farmers and fishermen and the hospitality industry.
The collaboration is the result of an initiative of the Tourism Development Corporation, which hailed the collaboration as a “groundbreaking strategic alliance”.
“Even though the proposed agritourism initiative was in the works, being advanced by both ministers respectively, the COVID-19 pandemic was really the catalyst that propelled this much-needed strategic alliance along,” a statement by the Tourism Development Corporation read.

Just under 100 workers returned to the British Colonial Hilton when it re-opened a fortnight ago, the hotel union s president has told Tribune Business.
Darrin Woods, the Bahamas Hotel, Catering and Allied Workers Union s (BHCAWU) president, said it was “had to tell” how 2021 will shape up for the tourism industry due to ongoing uncertainty associated with COVID-19 and related vaccines, and the resulting impact this will have on traveller confidence.
He added: “Everything is really hinges on what happens with COVID-19 and how this affects the travelling public, as we ve been seeing. So we really need to see what the final weeks in 2020 bring, and the first couple of weeks in 2021.”
