Recently, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan repeatedly stressed the issue of scientific and technological innovation, believing that scientific and technological innovation is a driving force for Pakistan s social and economic development. On this issue, I interviewed Di Yuna, Executive Director,Pakistan Study Center of Science & Technology and Economy at Beijing Technology and Business University (BTBU). What she talked about is as follows:
As early as November 2018, China and Pakistan jointly issued a statement, which clearly pointed out that the two countries should strengthen cooperation in the fields of ocean, S&T, aerospace, environment and agriculture, and expand the application of relevant science and technology in the fields of health, agriculture, water resources, energy and food safety, so as to improve the living standards of the Pakistani people.

Rohan Khatwani, a ninth-grader from Thar, arranges periodic table in shortest time
KARACHI:
It was February and the chill of a frigid winter that had gripped Pakistan for weeks had started to abate. But Rohan Khatwani, the son of a Hindu shopkeeper and a ninth-grade student from Mithi - a city in the dry, arid, sandy and largely downtrodden region of Thar - found the weather cold enough in Islamabad to sport a jacket. Yet, his palms were sweaty.
The day had arrived. It was February 13, 2021 and he was at the Islamabad Science Festival at the Pakistan National Council for Arts.

ISLAMABAD: Former bureaucrat Roedad Khan has urged the Supreme Court (SC) to take notice of the proposed establishment of an observatory and a museum in Shakarparian Hills Park.
The Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) is all set to set up the observatory and museum in the historical Shakarparian park where the then president Ayub Khan chaired a cabinet meeting and approved Islamabad’s master plan in 1960.
• Public places, parks already shrinking, Dr Hoodbhoy says
• Vacant govt land, other high altitude areas ignored
ISLAMABAD: With the Ministry of Science and Technology all set to establish an observatory and space museum in Shakarparian Hills, several voices of dissent have emerged over the site earmarked for the facility.
A number of experts believe that a public park was not an ideal location where such a project should be executed.
“Public places and parks are already shrinking, therefore there is no logic behind establishing the observatory in a park. This step will be tantamount to encroachment,” says Dr Pervez Hoodbhoy, renowned scholar and nuclear physicist.
