The future of 14th South Asian Games to be hosted by Pakistan will be decided today at a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan,
The 14th edition of the Games, allotted to Pakistan in 2019, was originally to be hosted by the country in April this year but due to Covid-19 it has been postponed for a year.
Different sport bodies will be attending the high-profile meeting including Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), Ministry for Inter-Provincial Coordination, Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) top officials and representatives of the Army Sports Board.

LAHORE: Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) president Major General (retd) Akram Sahi has said that his federation has cut off its association with the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA).
Addressing a press conference at Sports Board Coaching Centre, he said it was up to the national Olympic committee to meet their demands and conditions before giving them affiliation.
He said that now they will not join the POA but the POA will give them the affiliation itself. âWe will not join until the conditions of affiliation are fulfilled. In the presence of General Arif and Khalid Mahmood, the federation will not join POA.â
LAHORE: The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) and the Balochistan government are negotiating with regard to the staging of 34th National Games in Quetta this year.
Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs of Government of Balochistan Imran Gichki held a meeting at the POA’s headquarters in Lahore chaired by Vice President POA Shaukat Javed. Secretary POA Khalid Mahmood and Associate Secretary General POA Ahmer Mallick also attended the meeting.
“Mr. Imran Gichki, Secretary Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of Balochistan visited the headquarters of Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) on Tuesday the fifth of January, 2021 to discuss the holding of 34th National Games in Quetta as per instructions of CM Balochistan, H.E. Mr. Jam Mir Kamal Khan Alyani and Advisor to CM Balochistan, Mr. Abdul Khaliq. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Shaukat Javed, Vice President, Pakistan Olympic Association at Pakistan Olympic House, Lahore,” a POA press release issued here on Tuesday stated.
LAHORE: The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has suspended the affiliation of the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) after three athletes had tested positive in South Asian Games held in Nepal last year.
“Athletics Federation of Pakistan has been suspended with POA (NOC PAKISTAN). Athletes of sports of Athletics, except from those banned for doping offences, shall be facilitated to secure athlete’s right to participate in international or national events/programmes of POA in particular the Olympic or regional Games during the course of suspension of AFP,” said a press release issued by POA here on Tuesday.
“For reinstatement of membership, AFP has been advised to comply with conditions prepared in accordance with the applicable rules and guidelines including establishment of whistleblowing programme, awareness campaigns and adoption of polices and rules that mitigate the risk of doping in the sports of athletics.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Inter-provincial Coordination (IPC) Dr. Fehmida Mirza met on Wednesday javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem, Pakistan’s leading prospect in the Tokyo Olympics, in her office and assured him full support for his training.
A press release issued by the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) said during the meeting with Arshad and other officials of the Athletic Federations of Pakistan who accompanied the athlete, Dr Fehmida got briefing on preparation for the Olympics and assured the athlete of full cooperation and support of the government.
