KARACHI: Pakistan Football Federation’s inevitable suspension by FIFA was confirmed on Wednesday. Yet, Ashfaq Hussain Shah whose move to take over the PFF headquarters led to the ban is still seeking dialogue with the world’s football governing body to resolve the issue. “We are open to a dialogue with FIFA,” Ashfaq, who was elected president in a PFF election held by the Supreme Court in December 2018 which wasn’t recognised by FIFA, told Dawn. “We want them to listen to our grievances with the Normalisation Committee it appointed in Pakistan and find a way to resolve this matter.”

PFF’s suspension takes govt by surprise Sports April 8, 2021 ISLAMABAD: The suspension of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) Wednesday took the government by surprise as newly-appointed director general of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Col (r) Asif Zaman said that the FIFA Council took the decision in a haste. The Bureau of the FIFA Council suspended the PFF on what it called ‘due to third-party interference, which constitutes a serious violation of the FIFA Statutes.’ The PSB director general while talking to ‘The News’ said that Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Dr Fehmida Mirza had requested for patience during her press conference held a couple of days back.

FIFA, football’s world governing body, has suspended the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) due to third-party interference. A group of football officials, led by Ashfaq Hussain Shah, who was elected as PFF president in the 2018 elections sanctioned by the Supreme Court but not recognised by FIFA, took over the headquarters last month and seized control from the PFF Normalisation Committee (NC) appointed by FIFA and headed by Haroon Malik. FIFA said its decision to suspend the PFF was prompted by the “hostile takeover” which constituted a serious violation of its statutes. “FIFA issued a letter warning that, should the illegitimate occupation of the PFF headquarters not be lifted and the office bearers recognised by FIFA not be permitted free access to the building to carry out their mandate, the matter would be immediately submitted to the Bureau of the Council for decision,” FIFA said.

FIFA on Wednesday suspended the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) with immediate effect due to third-party interference. In a statement, the global body said that third-party inference was a serious violation of the FIFA statutes. This situation was prompted by the recent hostile takeover of the PFF headquarters in Lahore by a group of protestors and an alleged decision by certain individuals to remove the FIFA-appointed normalisation committee of the PFF led by Haroon Malik and to hand over the leadership of the PFF to Syed Ashfaq Hussain Shah, the statement added. The suspension will only be lifted once FIFA has received conformation from the normalisation committee stating that its premises, accounts, administration and communication channels are again under its full control and it can continue to carry out its mandate without further hindrance.
