PFUJ deplores bar on coverage of Lahore situation - Newspaper

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has condemned the government’s decision to bar television channels from covering the events that unfolded in Lahore on Sunday. According to a press release, PFUJ President Shehzada Zulfiqar and Secretary General Nasir Zaidi through a joint statement expressed concern over the situation, saying restrictions on the media would be counterproductive, encourage rumour-mongering and fan anti-government sentiments. “It also undermines the right to information. It is the people’s right to receive authentic and verified information. This curbs fear-mongering and stops people from falling prey to rumours. “Unfortunately this is what seems to be happening in parts of Punjab after the news blackout,” Shehzada Zulfiqar and Nasir Zaidi said. The PFUJ urged the federal government to reconsider the decision of blocking coverage of the Lahore situation. “Such moves fly in the face of the government

IA Rehman —the man behind the legend

Daily Times April 14, 2021 “IA Rehman never lost hope. Irrespective of how bad things were, he was an eternal optimist and always believed things would work out. He never let anger towards anyone or anything fester,” Dr Mehdi Hasan, the veteran journalist and media historian, fondly recalls. This was no mean feat, especially considering the trauma Rehman Sb endured early in his life. Some 70 percent of the men in his family died in the bloodbath that accompanied the creation of Pakistan. While Dr Mehdi’s friendship with IA Rehman dated back to 1962, our first encounter took place while I was studying at Punjab University. The year was 1983 and I was enrolled in the journalism department. I am forever grateful to Dr Mehdi for taking to meet the iconic human rights champion all those years ago.
