‘Tanker mafia will not be allowed to exploit people’

Islamabad : Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Shibli Faraz Thursday said that the water tanker mafias will not be allowed to take advantage of the issue of water shortage in Islamabad.
“We will not allow water tanker mafias to exploit people in Islamabad,” he said while speaking at a signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at resolving water-related issues in Islamabad between Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR), Ministry of Science and Technology and Capital Development Authority (CDA).
The water project, as per MoU, will resolve the biggest problem of the residents of Sector I-10 of Islamabad which is facing acute water shortage.
Parliamentarians pledge to work for groundwater extraction management

Islamabad : Parliamentarians from National Assembly, Senate and provincial assemblies of Punjab and Sindh have pledged to work together to improve legislative framework governing ground water extraction in Pakistan and improve cooperation and coordination for achieving Sustainable Development Goals target on water and sanitation by 2030.

‘Water metres to instill importance among residents’

In order to make people realise the importance of water, the federal government is planning to install water metres in the capital. A pilot project will be launched in this regard, said Science and Technology Minister Shibli Faraz. He was speaking at the meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Science and Technology on Friday.
The minister told the committee that the Pakistan Council of Research and Water Resources have carried out a lot of research on water. “We will launch a pilot project to install water metres in Sector I-10,” he said, adding that water will be metered so that it is used in a controlled manner.
