ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Islamabad High Court (IHC) restrained the Chairman of the Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV), Naeem Bukhari from working, on Thursday. The IHC, while hearing a petition against the appointment, remarked that no reason was presented for granting relaxation in age requirement and referred the issue back to federal government. During the hearing, the court asked whether government issued an advertisement for the appointment in the light of Supreme Court of Pakistan. The court said that the summary was forwarded without going through verdict of the Supreme Court and Ministry of Information made the same mistakes that were made during appointment Ataul Haq Qasmi.

IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah presided the hearing of a petition against the appointment of Bukhari as chairman of the state-run television. The court asked the representative of the Ministry of Information whether the government had relaxed the age limit. To which the representative replied that ‘it has been relaxed’.

The petitioner, Usman Ghani, mainly argues that the impugned appointment has been made in violation of the Supreme Court judgments. He said the government appointed Bokhari, who is 65 years of age, as the chairman without advertising the post as mandatory under the law and the guidelines set by the superior courts. He alleged that no proper meeting of the board of directors of the state TV was held in accordance with law to appoint the respondent/director as the chairman rather simple direction was given by the prime minister to convene a board meeting to elect the respondent.
