Man, woman injured as fleeing car-lifters open fire - Newspaper

RAWALPINDI: A man and woman were injured after being shot by car-lifters who were trying to escape in a stolen vehicle in New Town area on Sunday. The suspects were being chased by owners of the car. It all started in the morning when some burglars broke into a house in the cantonment but the burglary attempt was foiled by the family. After the suspects escaped from the cantonment, they tried to snatch a vehicle on Sixth Road and opened fire while escaping, resulting in injuries to a woman and a man who were passing by. When the police arrived at the scene, the car-lifters managed to escape towards Islamabad. The Dolphin Force squad was not able to catch them and two officials received injuries during the chase after their motorcycle slipped.

On the other hand, the country saw a decline in the number of casualties and new cases. A total of 78 people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours compared to 118 a day earlier, whereas 3,447 tested positive in a single day against 4,569 the previous day.
