Pakistan Accuses Indian Military of Shooting at U.N. Officials
18 Dec 2020
Pakistan accused the Indian military on Friday of shooting at a vehicle carrying two officers from the United Nations Military Observer Group.
Dawn quoted Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri as claiming that Indian border forces engaged in “unprovoked firing” near Kashmir at U.N. officials traveling to meet victims of alleged Indian ceasefire violations. According to Chaudhri, the shooting resulted in damage to the vehicle, but the officials escaped unhurt.
“The reprehensible act of unprovoked firing by India on the UNMOGIP officers is indicative of a new low in the conduct of Indian occupation troops,” Chaudhri said.

Abu Dhabi: The UAE and Pakistan have always supported one another in difficult times and will continue to do so, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Pakistani Foreign Minister, said in the capital on Friday.
Addressing the press on the second day of a two-day visit to the UAE, Qureshi said he had productive discussions with UAE leaders. “I had a very good meeting [on Thursday] with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and we had a good discussion on not just our bilateral relations, [but] the opportunities that exist between Pakistan and the UAE for trade and investment. I thanked him for the support we have received over the years, and I thank the UAE for the support. In difficult times, we have always stood with each other shoulder to shoulder, and we are tested strategic partners and In Sha Allah will remain so,” Qureshi said.
Pakistan’s foreign minister says he expects the issues being faced by members of the Pakistani diaspora following an abrupt visa ban imposed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) last month to be resolved soon.
“The Pakistani community and our diaspora in the UAE have contributed significantly to the UAE’s progress and development and it is acknowledged and appreciated and we are grateful for that. There are some issues of concern that I discussed and I am expecting a resolution of them,” Shah Mehmood Qureshi told a news conference in Abu Dhabi on Friday.
He said discussions with the UAE on the visa issue are ongoing and he will meet top UAE intelligence officials later on Friday to discuss the matter.
