Man arrested after attacking neighbor with machete picks up new charges in jail

Photo: Daniel Jacob Somsel A man charged with attacking his neighbor with a machete has now picked up new charges while locked up in jail. Thirty-one-year-old Daniel Jacob Somsel of Gamaliel appeared during a session of Baxter County Court Thursday. He entered a not guilty plea to the newest charges against him in which he is accused of attempting to damage a security camera in the recreation yard at the Baxter County Detention Center. In the earlier case filed in August, Somsel was charged with aggravated assault, second-degree battery, obstructing government operations and disorderly conduct. In the second case, he is charged with impairing the operation of a vital public facility and criminal mischief.

Man who stole vehicles to make trip to Arkansas, wrecks in Midway pleads guilty

Photos: (from left) Matthew Braden and Lakota Tripp The second of two Kansas men, who stole vehicles to make their way to Arkansas and ended up crashing one of them in the parking lot of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie at Midway, pled guilty to the charges against him in Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday. Twenty-one-year-old Matthew Braden was sentenced to six years probation and ordered to pay $2,500 restitution for damage done to a sign at the Eagles Aerie. The other man involved in the incident, 24-year-old Lakota Tripp was sentenced to five years in the Arkansas Department of Correction, with three suspended and two to serve in December last year.

(KAIT) - The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man found dead inside a burned car. The sheriff’s office said the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office in Little Rock identified the victim as 35-year-old Cody Benjamin Stradford of Mountain Home. Stradford’s parents filed a missing person report earlier this month, which indicated he had not been seen or heard from in several days. Law enforcement with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI arrested the fourth person in connection to Stradford’s death.

Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says the three charged are 27-year-old Ryan James Lindsey, 38-year-old Skylar Whitney Brazil and 42-year-old Allison June Beckham Cunningham, all of Mountain Home. Montgomery says about 10 Wednesday morning, deputies responded to a 911 call and located a vehicle just off Old Arkana Road and what appeared to be human remains inside. Montgomery says it appears the vehicle had been there for several days.

Couple found parked down dead-end road enter not guilty plea to drug charges

Photos: Amanda Maggard and Joshua Hergesheimer A couple from West Plains parked down a dead-end road near Walmart with all the windows in the vehicle covered over has been arrested and charged with being in possession of drugs and paraphernalia to use drugs. On Nov. 16 about 8 p.m., a Mountain Home police officer saw a small pickup parked near the end of Driller’s Road. The officer reported, as he approached, the female passenger opened the door to the truck and began to get out. She was identified as 34-year-old Amanda Maggard. The officer asked what Maggard and her male companion, 32-year-old Joshua Hergesheimer, were doing parked on the road with the vehicle’ windows covered.
