Updated signs detailing the Mountain Home Entertainment District now bear the names of 45 businesses, an increase of 16 businesses compared to the inaugural signs installed last May.The signs can be found at the four corners of the Baxter County Courthouse square and at the four corners of the district, which runs from Hickory Street east to South Church Street and from 5th Street south to 8th Street. The district also includes part of South Main Street.
The district, which opened in July 2019, allows patrons between the hours of 4:30 p.m. and midnight daily to leave a restaurant or bar with a single, commercially branded paper or plastic cup of beer, wine or a mixed drink. Patrons could then consume that beverage while walking around the Entertainment District.

The Baxter County Courthouse in Mountain Home will serve as the early voting site for all three districts. Early voting hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with no voting on Saturday or Sunday.
There are no contested school board races in the three districts, so no polls will be open on Tuesday, May 18 for election day. Results of the elections will be released at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, at the Baxter County Election Commission Office, located at 213 E. 5th Street in Mountain Home.

In Cotter, residents are being asked to approve an extension of an existing 1% sales tax to finance improvements to the city’s sewer system. In Harrison, residents are being asked to approve two sales tax measures that would finance the construction of a community/aquatic center and fund the operation of the city’s park system.
Early voting for the Cotter special election is available at the Baxter County Courthouse from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday. Early voting for the Harrison special election is available from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Boone County Election Center.
Two aging motels, one formerly classified as a nuisance property by the City of Mountain Home, will be sold at public auction at 4 p.m. May 6 at the Baxter County Courthouse, according to Sheriff John Montgomery.
The property was seized in January via a Writ of Execution filed against owner Brian Keith Ferguson in Baxter County Circuit Court to satisfy a judgment. Ferguson has the opportunity to redeem the property by paying the amount of the judgment up until the start of the auction, according to the sheriff.
The Mountain Home Motel is located at 411 Main St. and was classified as a nuisance property by the city in 2019. In May of 2020, the court ordered the property have a list of repairs completed in two weeks, or it would be razed. Ferguson was able to have the repairs completed in a timely matter, thus terminating the condemnation process.
Voters will head to the polls Tuesday in the city of Mountain Home to decide on whether to institute two tax measures – one temporary and one permanent – to finance a complete refurbishment of the city’s parks and construct a new community center with an aquatic complex.
Polls are open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the following locations: the Baxter County Courthouse, the Baxter County Election Commission Headquarters at 1 East Seventh Street and Twin Lakes Plaza, located at 759 U.S. Highway 62 East. Only residents of the city who are registered voters are eligible to cast a ballot in the special election.
