Arkansas sees mixed results in vaccine campaign, long-term care inoculations lag

The state of Arkansas has given more than 64% of its allocated COVID-19 vaccinations, but is lagging in the inoculations to long-term care facility residents. As of Monday afternoon, the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) says it has given 241,617 doses out of the 337,350 received by the state, an increase of 2,649 from Sunday. The long-term care inoculations the federal government has contracted with providers CVS and Walgreens pharmacies, gave just two shots and have only administered 6,985 of the 49,400 allocated doses. Arkansas remains in Phase 1B, which is open to those ages 70-and-over, teachers and school staff, childcare and higher education workers. Residents of Baxter and Marion counties wanting to receive the COVID-19 vaccine must sign up for a waiting list with participating local pharmacies.

According to court records, Lawson has dealt with significant mental health issues for some time. The original agreement, worked out by prosecutors and defense attorney Mark Cooper, called for Lawson to receive a six-year prison sentence with five suspended and one to serve.
