Man arrested for stealing purse at hospital, using credit card

An Izard County man has been arrested for allegedly stealing a purse at Baxter Regional Medical Center. Photos of 50-year-old Stephen Townsend of Wideman were posted on social media by Mountain Home police to help identify the suspect who was later recognized by a Flippin police officer during a traffic stop. According to the probable cause affidavit in the case, it’s alleged Townsend took a purse from a chair at the hospital. Video surveillance shows Townsend taking the purse and carrying it through the facility. A credit card from the purse was used to purchase a phone card but an attempt to use the card to purchase gas was unsuccessful.

1 killed, 1 injured in 2-vehicle accident in Fulton County

A local woman was killed, and another was injured in a two-vehicle accident Friday afternoon in Fulton County. Forty-five-year-old Rebecca McClelland of Viola was pronounced dead, and 67-year-old Kathleen Gamble of Henderson was transported to Baxter Regional Medical Center According to the Arkansas State Police, both vehicles were on U.S. Highway 62/412, traveling in opposite directions. Gamble’s vehicle reportedly crossed the center line in an area west of Viola, and its driver’s side struck the driver’s side of McClelland’s vehicle. The weather was clear, and the road was dry at the time of the 1:20 p.m. accident.
