Primary school pupils are being asked to enter a poster competition to help remind everyone about cycling safely. It follows a number of reports of accidents involving children on bikes including riding their bikes on pavements, dodging pedestrians, not wearing helmets and riding without lights on dark nights. The competition has been organised by Hambleton District Council’s Safer Hambleton Hub, along with local police and fire crews.

Jail for man whose drink and drug fuelled rampages brought misery to Brompton

A MAN whose drink and drug fuelled rampages brought misery and fear to a community has been jailed for 18 weeks and put under a four year criminal order to change his shocking behaviour. North Yorkshire Police say 30 year-old John Donaldson left residents in the village of Brompton, near Northallerton living in fear. A spokesperson said he caused misery to residents by being persistently drunk, under the influence of drugs and involved in disturbances at his home address including fights in the street, playing loud music and smashing glasses. Parents and children were scared to walk past his property to go to school because of the abusive behaviour.
