At least five people, including a minor, were killed and around a dozen others were wounded in roof and wall collapses, among other accidents, as strong winds, accompanied by dust and sand, bludgeoned Karachi on Tuesday evening. Mild to heavy showers also battered parts of the city offering respite from the sweltering heat that had gripped the city.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department Director Sardar Sarfaraz, the hot spell witnessed over the past couple of days, under the influence of tropical cyclone Tauktae, may persist till Wednesday (today) afternoon.

Two youths, including a female, were arrested here on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in the murder of a 25-year-old British-Belgian woman of Pakistani origin, police said.
The victim, identified as Mahira Zulfiqar, was found dead in her rented house in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Lahore on May 3. Mahria s friends Saad Ameer Butt and Iqra Hamdani were arrested following the cancellation of their protective bail on Wednesday, a senior CIA officer of the Punjab Police told PTI.
The two were arrested by the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of the Punjab Police.
Mahira, a British-Belgian dual national, had arrived here from Belgium some three months ago and was sharing her rented house with her female friend Iqra.

KARACHI: Eidul Fitr, which is supposed to be a festival of happiness, was not an occasion of revelry for many people of the city as some even struggled to find food during the lockdown while for others, the strict lockdown orders marred their plans of merrymaking. In the meantime, some families who were displaced during the anti-encroachment drive spent the festival in protest outside the club.
At around 2:30pm on Saturday, the third day of Eid-ul-Fitr, a Christian boy in his 20s knocked at the door of his Muslim neighbours, a family of four comprising an elderly woman, her son, his wife and their six-month-old baby. Clad in an oversized pale pink shirt and grey bell bottom dress pants over a pair of worn out black trainers, he removed the curtain on the door to become visible to his neighbours and they understood by just looking at him that he was there to ask for roti.
