The unions appeared firm on their demand for the repeal of the laws, though they said they would hold internal consultations tomorrow on the fresh offer. Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ugrahan) president Joginder Singh Ugrahan said, “The government proposed to suspend the farm laws for one and a half years. We rejected the proposal but since it has come from the government, we will meet tomorrow and deliberate over it.”

NEW DELHI: The tenth round of talks between the Central government and the protesting farmer leaders ended on Wednesday; and the next meeting is scheduled to take place at noon on January 22.
During the 10th round of talks, the Centre proposed to suspend the three contentious farm laws for one-and-a- half years; and set up a joint committee to discuss the Acts to end the stalemate. However, the leaders of the farmers did not immediately accept the proposal and said that they would respond to that after their internal consultations.
Govt offers to put on hold 3 farm laws by 1-1.5 years
NEW DELHI, Jan 20:
Yielding some ground to end the nearly two-month-long protest by thousands of farmers on the national capital borders, the Government today proposed to suspend the three contentious farm laws for 1-1.5 years and set up a joint committee to find an amicable solution in the interest of the farming community.
During their tenth round of negotiations with three central ministers, the two sides decided to meet again on Friday after the union leaders hold their own internal consultations on Thursday to decide on the government’s new proposal.

A 42-year old farmer from Haryana’s Rohtak district, agitating against the new farm laws at Delhi’s Tikri border, reportedly killed himself on Tuesday night by consuming a poisonous substance, according to
The Indian Express.
The farmer, who identified himself as Jai Bhagwan Rana in a suicide note that he left behind, consumed sulphas tablets, according to the police. He was taken to nearby Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, where he died during treatment,
The Indian Express reported. Rana was the fifth farmer who killed himself in the farmers’ protest at various borders of the national Capital.
