India requires Rs 80,000 cr for vaccine distribution next year: SII

New Delhi, Dec 19 (IANS): Pune-based vaccine-maker Serum Institute of India, which has partnered with AstraZeneca to manufacture the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, on Saturday said that the country would require a massive funding of Rs 80,000 crore for distribution of the Covid vaccine for the next one year.
The Central government plans to vaccinate nearly 30 crore people in the first phase of the drive. It will be offered to one crore healthcare workers, along with two crore frontline and essential workers and 27 crore elderly, mostly above the age of 50 years with comorbidities.
SRINAGAR: In a major development, India on Saturday recorded 25,152 new coronavirus cases and 347 deaths, taking the total number of infected people since January past the one crore-mark, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s data.
The country crossed the grim milestone almost eleven months after the first case was reported on January 30 in Thrissur district of Kerala. Since then, the country has recorded 10,004,599 coronavirus cases and 14,51,36 deaths.
The number of infections had crossed the 10 lakh-mark on July 17; 20 lakh on August 7; 30 lakh on August 23; 40 lakh on September 5; 50 lakh on September 16; 60 lakh on September 28; 70 lakh on October 11; 80 lakh on October 29; and 90 lakh on November 20.

With 22,890 new Coronavirus infections and 338 deaths in the past 24 hours, India s overall tally stood at 99,79,447 on Friday, while the death toll reached 1,44,789, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.

In the past 11 months, 95,20,827 people have recovered, of whom 31,087 recovered in the last 24 hours.
As of the ministry s data on Friday, there are 3,13,831 active cases. The recovery rate stands at 95.40 per cent, and the fatality rate is 1.45 as per cent.
