Relief for Cyclone Eloise battered communities Format Tuesday, January 26, 2021 With Cyclone Eloise having subsided on Monday evening, the national and provincial governments in Limpopo, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal have activated relief interventions to assist communities left devastated by the cyclone. The tropical rains experienced in the three provinces over the weekend were a culmination of Cyclone Eloise, which began in the Indian Ocean in Mozambique last week. Before the storm battered the eastern provinces, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Minister, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, said national and provincial emergency services and emergency centres were activated by the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) on Disasters.

The Minister will be joined by MECs of COGTA in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu Natal. The purpose of the media briefing is to provide updates on tropical storm and heavy down pours that are experienced in some areas.

ANC Buffalo City metro councillor fired for selling RDP house, having criminal conviction

She also has a criminal conviction for a case of assault.   Eastern Cape Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) MEC Xolile Nqatha has fired Buffalo City metro ANC councillor Ntombizodwa Gamnca with immediate effect, for violating the Municipal Systems Act. In a statement on Tuesday, Nqatha said Gamnca was expelled for her alleged involvement in the sale of immovable property and conviction for a criminal offence. It is understood that Gamnca was found guilty of selling an RDP house in Mdantsane for R300 000. Nqatha said Gamnca violated Item 2 (b) of schedule 1 of the Code of Conduct for Councillors of the Municipal Systems Act (MSA), which states that a councillor must at all times act in the best interest of the municipality and in such a way that credibility and integrity of the municipality are not compromised .
