Wood, Mary Helen Friday, March 12, 2021 Mary Wood We mournfully announce the passing of Mary Helen Wood, 95, of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Mary Helen passed away on March 12, 2021.   Mary Helen, born to the late Harry and Lelia Alexander Wood, was born on June 11, 1925.   She was predeceased by her brothers, Philip, Fred and Charles Wood, and sisters, Leslie Seals and Sis Ziegler, niece, Sandy Wood DeFord.   She is survived by nephew, Fred (Linda) Wood, great nephews, Philip (Emily) Guess and Rusty (AJ) Wood, great niece, Kelly Blevins.   While Mary Helen never married, she lived a full and vibrant life with more friends than you could count. Her nephews and nieces meant more to her than words can describe.

Smith, Mildred Ruth Romine Friday, March 12, 2021 Mildred Smith Mildred Ruth Romine Smith of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at the age of 91.  She was the daughter of the late John Carlen and Nora Bell Hooks Mansel originally of Bethpage, Tn. With her late husband, they operated Ralph’s Coiffures for over 40 years in the Signal Mountain community.  There she served as children’s Sunday School teacher and faithful member of Signal Mountain Baptist Church. Known to all as “Ms Ruth,” she loved people.  Ruth was always the consummate host whether at the shop or at her home.  Everyone she met received her special, warm lilted “well hello there” that made you feel so special.  If ever the label humble servant was fitting a persona, it was Ruth.  Before family and career, Ruth was first in her class and valedictorian at Central High then later became an executive secretary at Brock Candy Company.  Her other passions were ba

Smith, Jenny Kate Friday, March 12, 2021 Jenny Smith Jenny Kate Smith, 79, of Chattanooga, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 11, 2021 She was preceded in death by her parents; Millard B. Chase and Eloise Fitzgerald; and also her brother, Burke Chase. Jenny is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Jerry D. Smith; her children, Denise (Greg) Evans and Victor (Sue) Smith; and her grandchildren, Aubrey Smith, Garrett Smith, Riley Evans, and Shelby Evans. Jenny was born in Cleveland, Tn., and graduated from Bradley Central High School. She studied and graduated from Erlanger Nursing School as a registered nurse. Jenny worked at Erlanger and was a much beloved nurse at Tyner Junior High School. She became the Assistant Nursing Director at Life Care of Collegedale and Hamilton County Nursing Home. Jenny worked, until her retirement, as Director of Nursing at NHC Rossville.

Wolfe, Robert Thomas Tom Saturday, February 27, 2021 Tom Wolfe   He was born on July 6, 1933, and was raised in Chattanooga.  Tom attended Sunnyside School, where years later as an educator, he would serve as principal!  After studying at Brainerd Junior High and Chattanooga High School, he received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Chattanooga and a master’s degree from George Peabody Teacher’s College in Nashville.     Back in Chattanooga, he taught at Hemlock School and Barger School, as well as one year teaching at the American School in Augsburg, Germany.  Tom served as the first music resource teacher for the Chattanooga public schools and then became the principal of Sunnyside School.  Shortly after that school’s eventual closure, he embarked on a career at St. Nicholas School in the Early Learning Center.
