Donor Assists UNI Athlete On Journey To Paralympics
Imagine opening a Christmas present and being left speechless by the contents inside. That s exactly what happened to Glen and Kris Heims in December.
The Swisher couple are the parents of Jessica Heims, a University of Northern Iowa track and field athlete who is preparing to compete as a member of the United States Paralympic team later this year.
Heims is the world record-holder in the F64 discus classification. She established the mark with a throw of 35.52 meters at the University of Wisconsin-Madison s Alumni Classic in May of 2019.
Her performance that spring marked the second time in less than a month that Heims had the longest throw in the world. She first recorded an international record of 32.19 meters in the F64 discus in April 2019 while competing at the University of Iowa s Musco Twilight meet in Iowa City (see video below).

There is less than six months to go until the troubled Games are due to start
Representatives from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic organising committee have said there were no doubts or objections from its partners, including the International Olympic Committee and sporting federations, about Japan hosting the rearranged Games this year.
Tokyo organisers are preparing for the Olympics, which are due to start on 23 July, against a backdrop of dwindling public support for the Games in Japan amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
The organising committee s president Yoshiro Mori spoke with IOC President Thomas Bach today and said he had received assurances from the German that Tokyo had the full backing of all Olympic stakeholders.

Paris, Jan 28 : International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach reiterated the IOC’s commitment to delivering the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympic Games this summer, adding that preparation work for Beijing 2022 is also progressing steadily.
“We are fully concentrated on and committed to the successful and safe delivery of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020, starting on 23 July (2021) with the Olympic Games and 24 August with the Paralympic Games,” Bach said at a media conference after an IOC executive board meeting on Wednesday, Xinhua news reports.
Speaking about Beijing 2022, the IOC chief said: “We can say, even one year before, that all the (competition) venues are ready, the technical preparations are excellent.”
