SINGAPORE: The Singapore Motor Cycle Trade Association (SMCTA) has called for a review of the local motorcycle helmet safety standard after the Government proposed increasing penalties for selling or importing non-approved helmets.
The Road Traffic (Amendment) Bill, introduced in Parliament on Monday (Apr 5), seeks to raise the maximum fine for that offence to S$1,000 for first-time offenders and S$2,000 for repeat offenders.
As Singapore s vaccination programme continues, many may be wondering when their turn will come to become vaccinated.
Member of Parliament (MP) Foo Mee Har asked in Parliament on Monday (Apr. 5) whether there could be a standby queue at Covid-19 vaccination centres, where interested members of public could take the place of people who do not show up for their scheduled vaccinations.
No vaccine wastage
Responding to Foo, Senior Minister of State for Health Janil Puthucheary said that the majority of people who booked appointments have showed up, and that the small number of cases who do not show up or who are unable to be vaccinated do not result in vaccine wastage.

In Parliament on Monday (Apr 5), Monetary Authority of Singapore board member Ong Ye Kung responded to clarifications sought by MPs on Singapore s contributions to initiatives by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for vulnerable countries. The motions for the Grant to IMF s Catastrophe Containment and Relief Trust, Grant to IMF s Crisis Capacity Development Initiative and Grant to IMF s Trust for Special Poverty Reduction and Growth Operations for the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries were passed by the House.

Parliament on Monday (Apr 5) passed a Bill proposing changes to laws on postal services, meant to facilitate the deployment of a nationwide parcel locker network. Plans to set up about 1,000 locker stations under such a network were announced in March last year, in a bid to support the growth of e-commerce and the resultant rise in parcel deliveries.
