Speaking in Parliament on Friday (Feb 26), he said as the country s diverse culture and heritage become more and more a part of Singapore, race will become less and less a factor in evaluating a person. In politics, that would mean that when choosing a candidate to lead the Government, the choice must be the best person for the job, regardless of race, he said.

Budget 2021 debate: Mariam Jaafar on Singapore s Green Plan journey February 2021 26 Feb 2021 01:51PM (Updated: 09 Mar 2021 09:40PM) It does not look likely that Singapore will meet the goal of keeping global warming below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels or be carbon negative by 2030. But MP Mariam Jaafar said in Parliament on Friday (Feb 26) that Singapore should not be discouraged, as it has the potential to lead the innovations and collaborations needed to push towards decarbonisation. She called for efforts to be stepped up in sectors where Singapore could be the world s most sustainable hub, and to push forward international engagements and leadership.
