All State Governors of Nigeria are to meet on May 19, to address matters arising from a variety of challenges facing the country.
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) disclosed this in a statement issued by the Head, Media and Public Affairs of its Secretariat, Mr Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo in Abuja on Monday.
Bello-Barkindo said the governors at their 30th teleconference meeting scheduled to start by 2pm, would discuss issues such as ongoing conversation over the contentious Executive Order 10 and the third wave of COVID-19
Olu-Alade made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota, Ogun. x
He urged the Federal Government to direct the Attorney-General of the Federation and Accountant General to deduct from source monies standing to the credit of the judiciary.
”’The provisions of Constitution are clear to the extent that the Judiciary both at the Federal and State Level shall be independent in line with Section 121 (3), Section 81 (3) and Section 162(9).
”The Federal Government should resolve the prolonged judiciary workers strike through provisions in the Constitution,” he said.
Olu-Alade said the strike was regrettable as the judiciary staff had to embark on industrial action to compel the executive to comply with the law that guarantees autonomy for the judiciary.
The Civil Liberties Organisation, Akwa Ibom State Chapter has urged the Southern Governors Forum to back up resolutions made at their last meeting with law, especially the ban on open cattle grazing.
The CLO also commended the 17 governors for the courage to come up with the resolution and told them to follow up the decision by forwarding Bills to their respective Houses of Assembly.
In a press statement signed by the chairman, Otuekong Franklyn Isong and the Secretary, Christopher Ekpo Esq, issued to journalists in Uyo on Monday, the CLO, urged the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel to establish ranches in the 31 Local Government Areas of the State for cattle and other livestock.
