The Minority Whip and MP for Asawase, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has retracted and apologized for an allegation of corruption he made against a Supreme Court Judge.
Hon Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka had alleged that a trusted colleague had told him that she had been approached by a Justice of the Supreme Court seeking to entice her to vote for a particular candidate during the contest for the Speakership of Parliament.
In a statement written and signed by Hon Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, he said upon deep reflection and broad consultation on the aftermath of the disclosure, he Hon Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has realised that the disclosure may have scandalised the entire judiciary as he did not specifically name any judge in the matter.

More than 60 Members of Parliament (MPs) have failed to comply with the Speaker’s directive to undergo a compulsory COVID-19 screening being initiated by the Parliamentary Service Board.
The Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, who disclosed this in Parliament yesterday, therefore, warned members of the House to subject themselves to the COVID-19 testing, as some members had tested positive.
“My directive for all members to subject themselves to COVID-19 test has not yet been complied with by over 60 Members of Parliament. It is true, as the Majority Leader has stated, that we are all not safe.
“Even in the House some members are afflicted by COVID-19. You may not know who the person is because of the protocols and issues of confidentiality; we are not to disclose those who are now COVID-19 positive but we have some of us in that category,” he stated.
He had completely packed out from the Job 600 office allocated to him to operate from as the Second Deputy Speaker of Ghana’s 7th Parliament and the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Member of Parliament for Nadowli-Kaleo constituency had said goodbye to the legislative house, having served his constituents and Ghana for 28 years. That is an enviable record.
At the age of 35 years, Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, entered Parliament and gradually rose through the ranks to become both Minority Leader and Majority Leader as well as Leader of Government Business.
To him, January 6, 2020, was the opportune time to call it quits having diligently served his country since the birth of the 4th Republican constitution. Hon Bagbin did not contest the NDC’s parliamentary primary for Nadowli-Kaleo constituency. Therefore, exiting the legislative house was imminent.

The Parliamentary press corps has congratulated Alban Bagbin on his elevation to the high position of Speaker of the 8th Parliament of Ghana.
A statement signed by the Dean of the Parliamentary press corps, Nana Agyeman Birikorang said his outfit believes that Bagbin is highly deserving of the position, having contributed immensely to the progress of the country’s democracy.
It also congratulated the First and Second Deputy Speakers of the House, Joseph Osei Owusu and Andrew Amoako Asiamah, as well as the new leadership and all the 275 Members of the 8th Parliament upon their assumption of office.
